Newport News, Va. - Through another 3-0 PSUAC week for the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team, junior forward Curtis Newby (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) has earned himself the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Men's Division II Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 24th, 2017.
In the 3-0 Penn State University Athletic Conference week, Newby racked up 49 points and 43 rebounds with seven assists, four blocks and a steal on 62.9% (22-of-35) of his shots from the floor.
In the 88-72 trumping of New Kensington, Curt dominated with 19 boards, 15 points, four assists and two blocks on 70% (7-of-10) of his shots from the floor. Through the second contest of the week, a 100-84 triumph over Lehigh Valley, Newby noted yet another double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds with two assists. The forward capped off his performance with his ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and eleven rebounds - two blocks, one assist and one steal. Newby has assisted his team through a 14-4, 8-1 PSUAC.
Newby currently sits fifth in the PSUAC for rebounds per game with 9.4, third with overall boards with 170 and tied for third with total blocks with 20.
