North Huntingdon, Pa. - Sophomore midfielder Bengaly Diane (New Jersey/James J. Ferris) recorded the lone goal for the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team, as GA came up short 4-1 to Penn State University Athletic Conference foe, Penn State Beaver, Wednesday afternoon.
Greater Allegheny was first on the board just two minutes into the game, as Diane received a pass from freshman midfielder Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), lofting the ball into the back of the net to give Greater Allegheny the lead of the game, 1-0.
Beaver marked their first score just nine minutes after Diane's, evening the mark at one apiece.
Through 42 seconds in the 26th minute, Beaver attained two goals to lift their mark 3-1 over Greater Allegheny. Beaver's Marcus Smith dropped his second and final score of the game with just five minutes left to play in the first half, ending the scoring drive for both teams sitting at 4-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Wood (Rochville, Md./St. John's College) faced 12 shots on goal, saving eight through 90 minutes of regulation.
Greater Allegheny outshot Beaver through the game, 13-10. Diane recorded four shots, one going into the mesh. Marina fired three shots, two of them being on target.
Greater Allegheny (2-7-1, 1-3-1 PSUAC) goes on the road for a Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend. Saturday, Greater Allegheny travels to Scranton Prep High School to face Penn State Worthington-Scranton for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off. The Greater Allegheny Lions stay on the eastern side of the state for Sunday's match-up. Greater Allegheny travels to Penn State Hazleton for a 2 p.m. start.
