Diaz-Perez Assists Pair in 2-0 Silence over York

McKeesport, Pa. - With a ninety-minute shut-out from freshman goaltender Prakash Wagley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's soccer team earned their first Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) victory over Penn State York, 2-0.

After a pretty even half from both Greater Allegheny and York, the home team outshot the visitors 7-5. Wagley recorded his only four saves in the first half.

Seven minutes into the new half, senior midfielder Gerardo Diaz-Perez (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/ Immaculate Conception Academy) dished a beautiful pass to sophomore midfielder Kyle Griffin (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin), who beat the goalie and found the back of the mesh for the first tally of the game, 1-0 home team.

Just over twenty minutes later, Diaz-Perez found the feet of junior forward Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), chipped the ball past the goalie, finishing the scoring drive at 2-0 Greater Allegheny.

Wagley finished the game with those four saves as sophomore Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) notched six shots through the contest.

As a team, Greater Allegheny power-housed York on shots 17-6.

An evenly fouled game, GA advanced their record to 2-1-2, 1-1-1 PSUAC.

The men take a break from the conference schedule to travel to Westmoreland County Community College on Monday for a 5 p.m. kick-off.
