Marin Marina Honored by PSUAC for Outstanding Weekend

McKeesport, Pa. – The Penn State University Athletic Conference released its weekly awards for the Fall Sports Season on Tuesday September 19th and Penn State Greater Allegheny senior Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) has been named the Week Two PSUAC Men’s Soccer Player of the week.

Marina had an outstanding weekend as he scored five goal over the course of the two games to help lead his team to their first 2-0 start in PSUAC Conference play since back before the 2011/12 season.

On Saturday, Marina picked up his first hat trick of the year as he scored all three of his team’s goals in a 3-0 shut-out of Penn State Mont Alto. He then came back the very next day against Penn State York and put in two more goals to help lead the Lions to their second victory of the weekend when they topped York 3-1. Marina is the leading scorer so far for the Soccer team collecting five goals in the team’s three games this season.

Marina is one of just four seniors on this year’s team and is looking to continue to take on the leadership role that he had last season. He lead the team a year ago scoring 21 goals in 13 games as well as collecting five assists and scoring a total of 47 points throughout the season.

Coach Dale Odim was very impressed by the play of his Senior Midfielder saying, “We had two excellent outings. Kudos to Marin [Marina] for his hat-trick against Mont Alto and an almost repeat performance with two goals the next day.”

Marin Marina has had a lot of success over his first three years at Penn State Greater Allegheny where he was named First Team All-Conference in 2014 and Second Team All-Conference in 2015. He is a graduate of Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. where he was a four year member of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team.

Marina and the rest of the Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer team are back in action this Thursday September 21st when they travel to take on Westmoreland County Community College at 4 p.m. where they will look to stretch their winning streak to three straight games. The Soccer team will play its first home game this Sunday against Penn State Schuylkill at 1 p.m.
