McKeesport, Pa. - Through a set of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) match-ups against Penn State Hazleton, the Penn State Greater Allegheny softball team dropped two games by tallies of 10-0 and 17-1, Sunday afternoon.
Hazleton went up ten runs in the first inning in game one to put GA down 10-0. The Greater Allegheny defense did not allow another run throughout the remainder of the five inning bout. Freshman right fielder Albree Weisen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) singled to get on base in the bottom of the third before she was caught stealing. Freshman second baseman Jen Keefer (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth) singled before she stole second, ending up left on base.
Senior first baseman Kelli Hall (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning as she was also left on base, ending Greater Allegheny's offensive drive for game one.
Weisen and Keefer went 1-for-1 at the plate plate as Kelli Hall went 1-for-2 to get on base. Junior right-handed pitcher Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) pitched five innings, facing 30 batters and sitting down two on strike-out.
Hazleton put up four runs in the top of the first before Greater Allegheny came up to the batters box. Keefer singled before she stole second. Both Kelli Hall and freshman shortstop Kaylin Bob (Atlanta, Ga./Forest Park) grounded out to move Keefer to cross home plate, Greater Allegheny posting their first run of the day. Keefer singled in the bottom of the third before Hazleton swelled to a 17-1 advantage after four innings of action.
Keefer went 2-for-2 through game two as she scored the lone run for Greater Allegheny on the day. Bob earned the RBI on Keefer's run. Kelli Hall faced 36 batters through four innings, sitting down three on strike-outs.
Greater Allegheny (0-5, 0-2) look onward to a Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend on the road. On Saturday, GA faces Penn State Brandywine for a double-header set for 2 p.m. Sunday brings a Penn State Schyulkill match-up set for 12 p.m.
