McKeesport, Pa. – The PSUGA Cross Country team is back in action on Saturday September 23rd when they travel to the Penn State Mont Alto Invitational at 1 p.m. PSUGA runners are coming off of two great performances to start the season including a top ten finisher at the Penn State Greater Allegheny Invitational last weekend.
Sophomore Fernando Leira (Madrid Spain, Great Mills (Md.)) finished in 9th overall at the PSUGA Invitational finishing with a time of 31:48 while Freshman Luke Medich (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) finished 28th overall with a time of 48:49 in his first race of the 2017/18 season. Leira was happy with his performance but knows there is room for improvement as the season moves forward.
“I need to train at the hills because that is one of my rough spots in Cross Country,” said Leira. “I wasn’t at my best, but I am going to use this race to be at my best and be ready for the Championships [Later in the season].”
Leira is going to get a chance to test out that championship course on Saturday because the Penn State Mont Alto Invitational course is the same course that will be used for the PSUAC Championships on October 28th in Norlo Park located by the campus of Penn State Mont Alto.
The race will feature eight teams seven of which are coming from the Penn State University Athletic Conference. The teams attending include the following:
Kent State Tuscarawas
The course is 8 kilometers (5 miles) long and will wind through Norlo Park in Guilford Township, Pennsylvania. The race is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
