Race Preview: Frostburg State Invitational

McKeesport, Pa. – After a great performance at the Mont Alto Invitational one week ago, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Cross Country team is back in action as they make the trip down to Frostburg, Maryland where they will take part in the Frostburg State Invitational at 10 a.m.

Fernando Leira (Madrid, Spain/Great Mills (md.)) Continues to lead the Cross Country team after turning in another great performance at the Mont Alto Invitational coming in sixth overall out of 35 runners with a time of 24:13 in the six kilometer course. He also came in fourth overall out of the Penn State University Athletic Conference runners as he prepares for the PSUAC Championships on October 28th.

Leira continues to use these races to get better and improve for that PSUAC Championship Race, and his times are reflecting that hardwork week in and week out. He can now get a gauge of how he will do in the race as the same course used for the Mont Alto Invitational will be used for the PSUAC Championships on October 28th.

Saturday’s race will be ran at the Maplehurst Country Club in Frostburg, Maryland and it is back to an eight kilometer race after last week’s race was shortened to six kilometers due to the high heat that swept through the area a week ago. It will be a field of 12-15 teams including some of the top competitors in the PSUAC.

The race is set to begin at 10 a.m. when Leira looks to continue to improve as the season moves along to get ready for the PSUAC Championships.
