Art McCray Named New Women's Basketball Coach
Penn State Greater Allegheny proudly announces the appointment of Arthur McCray as the new Head Women's Basketball Coach.
A proud Penn State alumnus, McCray's connection to the University began as a student-athlete at Penn State New Kensington, where he served as one of the team captains and helped lead the Lions to multiple championships. He later returned to his alma mater as Head Men's Basketball Coach, building a program centered on competitive success, academic achievement, and student-athlete development.
After accepting a position as an Admissions Counselor, McCray transitioned from head coach to Assistant Men's Basketball Coach, where he continued to play a key role in recruiting, player development, scouting, and program leadership. His ability to combine admissions expertise with athletic recruiting strengthened enrollment efforts and created opportunities for prospective student-athletes.
McCray's impact on Penn State athletics was recognized when he became a member of the inaugural class inducted into the Penn State New Kensington Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring his outstanding accomplishments as an athlete and lasting contributions to the campus community.
Before coaching at the collegiate level, McCray led Summit Academy in Herman, Pennsylvania, to multiple section championships as Head Boys' Basketball Coach while establishing a culture of discipline, accountability, and excellence.
Currently serving as an Admissions Counselor and Athletic Recruiter at Penn State Greater Allegheny, McCray has expanded athletic recruiting efforts while helping prospective student-athletes achieve their academic and athletic goals.
"I am honored to be named the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Penn State Greater Allegheny," said McCray. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Jason Broadwater and Chancellor Dr. Megan Nagel for their confidence in me and for this opportunity. I am grateful for the chance to continue serving this great University and look forward to building a championship culture that emphasizes integrity, accountability, academic success, and excellence. Our goal is to develop exceptional women who will succeed in competition, in the classroom, and long after they leave Penn State."
With decades of experience in coaching, recruiting, admissions, and student-athlete development, McCray is well-positioned to lead the next chapter of Penn State Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball.
"I would like to extend a warm welcome to Coach McCray on being named Head Women's Basketball Coach," said Athletic Director Jason Broadwater. " The opportunity to elevate our program as we continue to take positive steps as a department is exciting. I look forward to seeing Coach McCray and the coaching staff lead and develop our student athletes."
