Men Keep Winning Jump Four Spots in Weekly Poll
The PSUGA Men's Basketball team used a perfect 2-0 week to jump four spots in the USCAA Weekly Coach's Poll up to a tie for #11 in the country. Jordon Payne was a big part of the success scoring 71 points combined between the two games.
McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Men’s Basketball Team (10-4, 7-3) just keeps winning in 2019 pushing their season long win streak to six games last Friday. For their efforts, they have jumped four spots in the weekly United States Collegiate Athletic Association weekly coach’s poll tying with Vermont Tech for the #11 spot.
After struggling through the month of December where they went just 1-4, they have come back and won all five of their games so far in 2019 and have gone from a 1-3 team in conference play to a 7-3 team that is sitting a top the Penn State University Athletic Conference West Division. During their current six game winning streak, the offense is averaging 91.1 points per game and have scored over 100 points twice.
The offense has been led by senior Jordon Payne (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) who has been named both the Penn State University Athletic Conference and the USCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. He scored 71 points over his team’s two games last week including a school record 45-points against PSU-Scranton in a 117-83 win that gave them their seventh conference win of the season.
Their current win streak helped them jump from sitting in fifth place in the conference with an outside chance of making the playoffs to sitting on top of the PSUAC West Division with chances looking good that they will make their fourth straight trip to the tournament. With an offense that is clicking on all cylinders right now, they are going to be a tough team to stop in the playoffs.
However, there is still a lot of work to do over the final three weeks of the regular season. They have two match-ups with USCAA top 10 teams including a match-up with #3 PSU-Wilkes Barre on February 4th and a big match-up with #7 PSU-York tonight that will go a long way in determining PSUGA’s playoff future.
Tip-off for tonight’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. with PSU-York as the second half of a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.
