McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer Team (2-1, 1-0) looks to keep rolling in Penn State University Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they take on Penn State Scranton (0-2, 0-0) at 4 p.m. PSUGA picked up their first conference win of the season their last time out when they defeated PSU-New Kensington on Wednesday 4-1.
Senior Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, PA./Baldwin HS) led the offense against New Kensington scoring two goals on the day, one on a pass from fellow senior Nic Babic (Pittsburgh, PA./Baldwin HS) and the other coming on a penalty kick. Freshmen Raghu Chimoriya (Pittsburgh, PA./Ellis Prep Academy) and Idriss Benjelloun (Harrisburg, PA./Susquehanna Township HS) each added a goal to round out the offensive attack.
Goalkeeper Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson HS) didn’t face much pressure on the day only having to make five saves on five shots on goal collecting his first shutout of the season and his program record sixth of his career. Bucsok now has 11 career wins and needs just two more to become the all-time winningest goalie in program history in just his sophomore year.
Chris Rossi (Elizabeth, NJ./Frank J. Circafel Academy) and Namy Makiese (Pittsburgh, PA./Taylor Allderdice HS) each played outstanding games contributing one assist and making a big impact at their positions. Makiese was playing at left back for the first time in his career and Rossi played a great game in the midfield helping to spread the ball around to his fellow teammates.
PSUGA now sits at 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play after the win. They have played well over their last 180 minutes of soccer allowing just one goal on nine shots over their last two games. Their offense has also been clicking since the start of regular season play averaging 6.3 goals per game through the team’s first three games of the season.
PSU-Scranton enters the contest looking for some momentum after a 6-2 loss to Berkley-NJ in their last game. Christian Toussaint supplied the only offense on the day scoring both of his team’s goals in the loss. Scranton has scored just two goals in their first two games of the season while giving up 11 goals.
PSUGA has never lost to PSU-Scranton in program history with a perfect 5-0 record against them. Last season, PSUGA picked up an 8-0 victory in the matchup between these two teams with former Lion Jake Theiret picking up a hat trick while Marin Marina and Nurkic each scored two goals in the win.
