McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer Team (3-2, 2-1) is looking for a bounce back effort on Tuesday when they take on Penn State Mont Alto (0-4-1, 0-1-1) at 4 p.m. PSUGA lost their first Penn State University Athletic Conference game of the year last time out falling to PSU-Brandywine 7-0. The loss was PSUGA’s first regular season loss to a PSUAC opponent going back to October 10th of last year.
Brandywine would take control early in the match taking a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of the half. The scoring would continue with Brandywine putting up two more goals and they went into halftime leading PSUGA 4-0. They would tack on three more goals in the second half including one with just one-minute left in the game to walk away with the 7-0 victory.
There weren’t many offensive opportunities for PSUGA, but the ones that were available were supplied by Raghu Chimoriya (Pittsburgh, PA./Ellis Prep Academy) who collected three of his team’s six shots on the day putting two on goal. Dario Marina (Pittsburgh, PA./Baldwin HS), Jagesh Subba (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS), and Yam Bista (Pittsburgh, PA.) contributed one shot each to round out the offense.
Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson HS) had a good day in net making 12 saves on 16 shots on goal in 58 minutes played. Bucsok had to leave the game for a while in the first half due to a blow to the head and Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, PA./Baldwin HS) stepped in admirably picking up 11 saves on 14 shots on goal.
Bucsok is looking to make history on Tuesday and with a win can become the winningest goalie in PSUGA Men’s Soccer history. He enters the day with 12 career wins tied with PSUGA alumnus Alex Wood for the most all-time. Bucsok already holds one program record with 7 career shutouts in just his sophomore season.
PSU-Mont Alto comes into Tuesday’s contest on a bit of a high note after tying with PSU-York on Sunday. Joel Wadel scored the lone goal for Mont Alto assisted by Bryan Palamar just 14 minutes into the game. York would respond with their first goal of the day right after halftime and neither team could find the net from there leading to the tie.
PSUGA leads the all-time matchup against Mont Alto with a record of 4-1 in the two team’s previous five meetings. Last season, PSUGA got the best of Mont Alto with a 3-0 victory to start out PSUAC play. Former Lion and current assistant coach Marin Marina supplied all the offense in the game picking up a hat trick on 10 shots in the win.
