Wrestling Splits Tri-Match With Mont Alto and Fayette
McKeesport, Pa- The GA wrestling team went 1-1 in their tri-match against Penn State Monto Alto and Penn State Fayette, defeating Mont Alto 35-6, and then falling to Fayette, 21-18.
In the first match against Mont Alto, freshman Bobby Williams pinned his 133 opponent, while fellow freshman Matt Lago (Penn Trafford) earned the same result at 149. Three forfeit wins- 157, 174, and 285 - coupled with freshman Michael Pavasko's (Steel Valley) technical fall at 165, propelled GA to victory.
In the 21-18 loss to Fayette, freshman Andre Ellis (Steel Valley) pinned his 285 opponent, while Pavasko and freshman Myan Haviv (Allderdice) earned forfeit victories. GA battled back to make the match close, despite 3 of their first 4 wrestlers being pinned.
The split leaves GA's record at 5-5 overall, and 5-3 in PSUAC matches. Next up for the wrestlers are the PSUAC and USCAA Championships on February 12.
