Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader vs Hocking
NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Penn State Greater Allegheny picked up a pair of road victories Sunday afternoon, defeating Hocking College 7-1 in the opener before outlasting the Hawks 17-13 in a high-scoring nightcap.
With the sweep, the Lions move to 2-3 on the season.
Game One: Penn State Greater Allegheny 7, Hocking College 1
The Lions set the tone early, scoring two runs in the top of the first and never looking back. A pair of runs in the third extended the lead, and steady offensive production throughout the middle innings secured the six-run victory.
Henry Dickmann led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI, while Robert Amell drove in three runs. Julian Santiago added two hits and an RBI, and Brayden Patton chipped in a run-scoring double. Duston Strom also doubled as part of the Lions' eight-hit effort.
Damian Bosco created havoc on the bases, drawing four walks and stealing two bases. As a team, Penn State Greater Allegheny worked 11 walks and stole four bases to consistently pressure the Hawks' defense.
On the mound, Gabe Kendrick was dominant in earning his first win of the season. The right-hander tossed five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six. Brian Koterba closed out the final two innings to seal the victory.
Game Two: Penn State Greater Allegheny 17, Hocking College 13
The nightcap turned into an offensive showcase, highlighted by an eight-run third inning and a five-run fourth that gave the Lions a commanding lead.
Duston Strom paced the attack with two doubles, two RBIs, and three runs scored, while Cole Rusak launched a home run and drove in three. Damian Bosco added two hits and three RBIs, and Brian Koterba contributed an RBI in the win.
After building a sizable advantage, the Lions weathered a late push from the Hawks, who scored 10 runs across the fifth and sixth innings to tighten the contest. Penn State Greater Allegheny responded with three insurance runs in the seventh.
Matthew Rivera earned the win in relief, and Brian Dupuis shut the door over the final 1.2 innings to record the save, striking out two without allowing a run.
