GA Soccer Focused and Ready for Fall Season
(McKeesport, PA)
Coach Jason Broadwater took over the Greater Allegheny Men's Soccer program in January of 2020. That was when the world was "normal".
It has been a long and winding road to get to this point with the Covid-19 pandemic having other plans for Broadwater and his team last year. Hard to believe he has been in this role for almost 2 years without having the opporunity to build a body of work on the field.
Broadwater has embraced the challenge.
"I have taken each day as it comes. There hasn't been a playbook or something I can rely on from a coaching course to navigate the last year and a half. I have tried to show great empathy and love for the players and keep us moving forward." said, Broadwater. "I'm thankful we could train last year and get to know the guys a bit. This fall should be more ideal for everyone."
Broadwater's impact can be felt in recruiting.
He has retooled his roster from top to bottom with a significant recruiting class coming in this fall.
Yet, there are some familiar faces that remain in senior, Namy Makiese (Allerdice High School, Pittsburgh, PA) and junior, Elijah Akinade (Princess Anne High School, Virginia Beach, VA).
"Namy and Elijah are our anchors. I appreciate their leadership and demeanor and how they set the example for our players on and off the pitch." added, Coach Broadwater.
Makiese and Akinade do have some help with Will Sosia, a transfer from the Community College of Allegheny County, and rising sophomores Dylan Bradshaw, Abdi Abdalla, Narayan Subedi, and Jaylin Wescott.
Approximately 18 new players will be joining the program this fall with players from the Pittsburgh area, Ohio, Maryland, Texas, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Kansas, Virginia, North Carolina, and Taiwan.
"I feel like we addressed a lot of our needs and have built a solid foundation going forward. We want to be competitive in all aspects of everything we do." said, Broadwater. "I can't wait to get started and see this group compete. We're trying to "BeGreater" every single day.
The team reports August 16 for training camp. Their first home game is on August 25 against Westmoreland County Community College.
